I am based on Dartmoor in the southwest of the UK, and trained at both St Ives School of Painting and the Newlyn School of Art.
I am a walker and runner, and I spend a lot of time on the moorlands and coast paths of Devon and Cornwall. Over the years I have noticed my attraction and attachment to the wild Atlantic coasts of Cornwall, Scotland, Ireland, Brittany and Portugal. I have walked many thousands of kilometres on these coasts over the past fifty years. My practice is called Bottom Left Corner because that is mostly where you’ll find me and that is what you will find running through me.
Naming my practice Bottom Left Corner, or BLC, reflects my engagement with and belonging to these western margins. I am fascinated by the dance between wildness and the human communities, past and future as much as now, that have shaped these places and are shaped by them. I am fascinated by what they will become, and how the communities will change in the face of our shifting climate and our geopolitical situation.
My art takes many forms, spanning painting and print, collaborative inquiry and writing. Some of the work is for sale and can be made available for use in projects and organisational work. Please just contact me if you are interested in a piece.
